Dr. Maximo
...is a Doctor of Human Nutrition with a special focus on Health Medicine and Epidemiology. He is part of the Latin American Network of Nutrigenomics, Abran (Brazilian Association of Nutrology) and NAWM (Brazilian Society of Food and Nutrition). He has published hundreds of articles in popular magazines and is currently working as director of his clinic, in Curitiba, Brazil, in the prevention of diseases and studies based on dietary supplements in health and quality of life. His enormous experience in nutrition will help to better serve our Agel team members in Latin America.
Dr. Maximo is instrumental in developing a strong product culture in Latin America. He is responsible for answering questions related to products that are submitted from team members in Spanish and Portuguese.
RANDALL W. MAXEY, MD, PhD

104th President, National Medical Association
Randall W. Maxey, MD, PhD was installed as the 104th president of the National Medical Association (NMA) at the organization’s 2003 Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly. Dr. Maxey continues to emphasize the NMA’s mission to eliminate health disparities. This will be accomplished, in part, with the development of cultural competence programs, public health outreach and further development of evidence-based best practices. He is president of the Alliance of Minority Medical Associations (AMMA) and co-Chairs the NMA AMA Commission to Eliminate Health Disparities and also the Commission on the Human Genome and Health Disparities.
Dr. Maxey has special interests in chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease and health disparities. He has written and lectured extensively on these and related subjects.
Dr. Maxey has created the Community Health Project concept of Health Education Risk Reduction Opportunity. This is a program that has as it’s major objective improving health outcomes by developing and emphasizing personal health responsibility and incentives.
In his scientific and academic endeavors and private nephrology practice, Dr. Maxey has made significant contributions to research and education on the prevention and treatment of renal failure, especially in cases complicated by severe cardiovascular disease. Over the years, his work has been recognized with awards from peers, colleagues, and professional organizations, including the National Medical Association and the Golden State Medical Association. Notable among Dr. Maxey’s achievements was creating new approaches to the prevention of renal failure in South Pacific Islanders with diabetes mellitus and hypertension and the development of the plan that created the dialysis program for the nation of Zimbabwe.
Dr. Maxey earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati, followed by a doctorate in cardiovascular pharmacology from Howard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and a medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine. He received postgraduate medical training in the Department of Medicine at Harlem Hospital Medical Center and Columbia University, and undertook a fellowship in renal medicine at the State University of New York at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Maxey served as Director of Nephrology at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital in Inglewood, California and Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center in Hawthorne, California. Dr. Maxey has held a number of academic appointments including instructor, basic sciences and director of the Academic Reinforcement Program in the College of Dentistry, instructor undergraduate Biology, both at Howard University. Assistant Professor of medicine, State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center Brooklyn New York, Clinical Assistant Professor of medicine Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science Los Angeles California.
Dr. Maxey is a past president of the Golden State Medical Association and the Charles R. Drew Medical Society, and founding president and board member of the Association of Minority Nephrologists. In addition, he maintains membership in several professional organizations, including,the American Society of Nephrology, the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs, and the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. His publications have appeared in several textbooks and scientific journals. Dr Maxey was elected by the faculty of Howard University to the medical honorary fraternity Alpha Omega Alpha
